The Market's Organising Committee is currently reviewing ways that it can reduce the Market's environmental impact and will be looking to introduce a series of measures in the coming months. Here are some comments from one of our regular stallholders - Leeds Bread Co-op - on what they're doing in this area:
"At Leeds Bread Co-op we try to reduce our environmental impact as much as we can. For all of our markets and deliveries we transport our bread in reusable crates and tubs. We provide paper bags for customers to carry their bread home, as well as selling branded cotton bags for £5. We do not use plastic bags anywhere in our supply chain. Any bread that is left over after a market gets redistributed to our nominated charities around Leeds for free, which helps us reduce our food wastage impact and sends the bread to worthy causes."
