Leeds Bread Co-Op

We are a local artisan bakery and workers co-op. All our bread is slow-fermented and made by hand using organic flour, in our small Leeds-based bakery. We are passionate about making great tasting bread that is good for people, and is made using simple, high quality ingredients, organic and local where possible.

We bake a range of sourdough bread, from white sourdough, to German-style 100% rye bread, and also offer non-sourdough breads such as ciabatta loaves and our deli rye, a mild rye loaf combined with caraway seeds. We also make doughnuts, filled with either custard or jam. In all cases, the dough is fermented, hand-shaped and made using as many organic ingredients as possible.

As a values-led enterprise, we aim to provide an ethical and enjoyable livelihood for all our workers whilst reducing the environmental impact of the bread we produce.

We are based on the co-op values of democracy, self-help, self-responsibility, equality, equity and solidarity. We aim for a non-hierarchical workplace where empowerment of workers, care of the community and collective self-reliance are at the core of how we function.

News

We're very sorry to have to announce that we've decided to cancel our March market. Under the current lockdown rules we could have legally operated but felt that it was more in keeping with theĀ Stay At Home guidance to remain closed in March.

We hope to be open again in April but will provide an update nearer the time. In the meantime please do support our wonderful stallholders if you possible can: delivery and online options.
